Coconut and The Duke

Coconut and The Duke

Coconut and The Duke play eccentric, mostly-acoustic music in a variety of styles: folk, jazz, surf, reggae, and the most mystical of all: ‘unclassifiable‘.  They aim to surprise themselves and ultimately make the ‘unclassifiable‘ exciting for the listener. They feature mandolin, ukulele, melodica among other instruments in their music,  which has been featured on Vin Scelsa’s Idiot’s Delight (SiriusXM Radio) and other radio shows.  You can hear a new song in the upcoming documentary “The Price Of Sand“.  Coconut and The Duke have been a part of the Mid West Music Fest and Boats and Bluegrass.  They are based out of Osseo, WI and Winona, MN.About the name: On a trip to Florida, Coconut put a stamp on a coconut and sent it to the Duke back in 1999.  Ever since then, he has been known as Coconut.  Duke used to work as a coffee-jerk at a Borders, where he was prone to wear empty drinking straw boxes on his head.  His manager remarked that the boxes looked rather majestic, so she started calling him “The Duke Of Straw”.
