The highly anticipated film JUG BAND HOKUM will receive an April 25, 2015 teaser screening in Winona, Minnesota courtesy of Three Honchos Films, Infinite Zero Pictures and Mid West Music Fest. The documentary film stars Brooklynd Turner and Anne Baggenstoss of the Yoga Jug Benders with Amnesia Starr and Lil’ Majesty of $how Me Your Jug$ as competing bands participating in the 2015 Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands. Jug Band Hokum also features author and radio sensation Garrison Keillor, rap legends Bone Thugs N-Harmony along with a who’s who of musicians and historians influenced by jug band music, including: Charlie Parr, Dom Flemons (of the Carolina Chocolate Drops), Bones Jugs-N-Harmony, Steel City Jug Slammers, Baby Gramps, Deep Fried Pickle Project, author Michael L. Jones, Eddie Danger and more.
The film is written, directed and edited by Emmy Award winner Jack Norton (co-creator of PBS Kids series The Zinghoppers Show) and prominently features an original score by Emmy Award winner Kitty Norton. The film’s worldwide premiere will take place later this summer, however attendees of Mid West Music Fest get an early taste for Norton’s work that popular blog Movies & More calls, “a bizarre documentary…full of lovably eccentric characters.” Film & Review Magazine described the film as “a real-life version of Christopher Guest’s A Mighty Wind with dashes of Harmony Korine’s Spring Brakers. A wildly fun documentary.”Currently seeking a distribution partner, the producers plan a late summer 2015 international release coinciding with promotional tours including screening-concerts that feature participating bands and artists appearing in the film. Jug Band Hokum follows the whimsical lives of two jugs bands as they compete in a Battle of the Jug Bands Contest…all with the goal of winning the grand prize: a broken waffle iron. Friendships are made, trust is broken, and in the end only one band will be crowned champion. This is a story of pure hokum, Jug Band Hokum.
