The Ultrasounds at the Handy Corner

The Ultrasounds to play 8 states in 10 days

Winona’s sludgy garage-pop foursome known as The Ultrasounds will be stumbling across the Midwest August 7- 16th on the second tour in support of their debut album, “Lost My Mind EP,” which was released on March 7, 2014. The five-track album which was recorded and produced in Winona by local recording engineer and musician Randal Kline has been described as “a solid debut recording that leans heavy on deft distorted guitar work — just like their raucous live performances” by Adam Wiltgen of All Lights Off Radio and The Noisy Neighbor.

The Ultrasounds formed in 2011 when Megan Hanson, former front woman of Winona’s punk-rock titans, Thumbelina and the Tangerine Fists of Justice, was introduced to Amber Fletcher, Courtney Guenveur, and Kelly Mason. After Mason moved across the country, Megan’s husband, Todd Hanson, joined the band, which led the group in a louder and heavier direction.

The Ultrasounds regularly perform across southern Minnesota and Wisconsin, and have played three years of Winona’s ever growing Mid West Music Fest.   After the release of their EP in March, the group, packed tightly into their unreliable, yet beloved, 2000 Chrysler mom-van, set out on their first six-day tour, playing places like Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Dubuque.

With ten days and eight states now on the itinerary, the “Lost My Mind EP Summer Tour” is certain to be even more wild and unpredictable than the first.
