Happy 20th Anniversary to the Winona Brass Band! How do we thank them for twenty years of delighting audiences right here in Winona? This is the fun part, we get to attend three shows full of all the brassy fun you’d ever need. A win for everyone!
Winona’s Brass Band is considered a British style brass band with twenty-five brass players and two percussionists. Many of the players are current and former concert band directors, as well as a few college students, high school students, and community members. The differences in experience or age don’t appear to matter when one realizes how much they all just love to play!
Sunday, November 17th at 2:00 p.m. will be the show to kickoff the 20th anniversary season. Director Richard Lindner has selected Malcolm Arnold’s “Little Suite for Brass” as the opening number. Also programmed is “March Fantasia Colonel Bogey on Parade,” which you may recognize as theme music from the movie, “The Bridge On The River Kwai.” Two songs set for brass bands, Leonard Bernstein’s “A Simple Song,” and Stephen Sondheim’s “Send In The Clowns,” will also have their chances to shine.
This season’s concerts will be held at the St. Cecilia Theater on the Winona Cotter Campus. A free will offering will be taken at each concert. Let’s hope for twenty more years of such a grand Winona tradition. I hear whistling is allowed.
